May 5, 1888: 19 railroad machinists in Atlanta Ga., secretly met in a locomotive pit and organized the Order of United Machinists and Mechanical Engineers of America. Hence the IAM was born, the man responsible for this was Thomas Talbot. Local Lodge 225 was chartered in 1892.We have approximately 300 active and retired members.  We represent a diverse group of the workforce. We strive for better wages, healthcare, retirement and all around a better life.
